Season opener at Hemond's MX Park on tap for Rock Maple Racing's Can-Am Series

DERRY, NH (May 2, 2008) - As temperatures gradually warm up and things start
to turn green around the northeast, ATV enthusiasts are getting anxious to get
out and play.
Riders who enjoy a little competition are busy tuning their machines, as Rock
Maple Racing (RMR) prepares to kick off the 2008 Can-Am series schedule on
Sunday, May 11, at Hemond's MX Park in Minot, Maine.
Spectator gates will open at 8 a.m., and racing will get under way promptly at
9 a.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 10, while
children age 5 and under will be admitted free with a paying adult.
The day's program will begin with qualifying action for all classes. These
qualifying races allow riders to learn quick lines around the challenging
track. It all builds to an exciting climax at roughly 1 p.m. as Finals for all
classes begin. Riders from around the northeast will be gunning for trophies
and bragging rights as Rock Maple?s second full season of ATV racing gets under
way.
Race fans in Central Maine will be pleased to know a popular stock car driver
will be joining RMR for this event. Shawn Martin, driver of the Maine Ski-doo
Dealers/Can-Am RMR Series Late Model entry at Oxford Plains Speedway, will
compete on a Can-Am ATV in the Utility class if it is offered that weekend.
Martin will also display his beautiful No. 94 machine at Hemond?s on race day
and meet with fans of all ages.
New this year for the Can-Am series is a division between East and West
points races, much like RMR does with its snocross programs. This makes it
easier for teams to run for points titles without the added expense of extra
travel.
Also new is the addition of a Five-round series for "Pit Bikes," which have
become so popular in the last few years. There will be eight classes, broken
down for Pro and Amateur riders and for 10-inch or 12-inch wheel diameter. RMR
will partner with the Pit Bike Racing Association (PBRA) to bring this exciting
new class into the mix.
RMR's Can-Am series offers riders two separate divisions in which to compete.
The popular MX division is for rear-wheel-drive, race-bred machines, while the
Utility division is for entry-level riders with 4x4 or utility-style ATVs. A
separate course is built at each event for 4x4 competition, known as the
QuadTerrain Challenge.
Hemond's MX is a world-class motocross facility with a reputation for great
racing. Run by the hard-working Hemond family, the track has been expanded in
recent years to become one of the premier race courses in New England. Hemond's
hosts several Maine Motocross Series events during the season, along with a few
larger New England Sports Committee (NESC) events. All over the northeast,
racers are talking about how nice the track and facility in general is at
Hemond's MX Park. The family has poured its heart and soul into the track, and
it shows.
