PASS North: Johnny Clark cashes in at Beech Ridge

Naples ME - (September 21,2008) Johnny Clark won two races at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon. The first was off pit road when he beat the field back to the speedway on lap 258, and the second came when the checkered flag flew on lap 295 of the rain-shortened PASS 300. Clark led the final 42 laps toclaim the $10,000.00 victory over Adam Bates and Kelly Moore in a race that was short on cautions (six), with plenty of long green flag runs and battles for position throughout the thirty-five car field on every lap.

Trevor Sanborn had the field covered for most of the day, leading 225 laps in the season’s longest PASS event. But his race car didn’t have the edge it once had after pitting for tires and fuel. Sanborn had to settle for fourth followed by Cassius Clark in fifth. Travis Benjamin, DJ Shaw, Ben Rowe, John Stancill and Scott Mulkern completed the top ten. The top eight finished on the lead lap.

The win was Clark’s fourth PASS North victory of 2008, drawing him closer to the top of the championship point standings and a shot at his third PASS North title. PASS instituted a “best 12” format for the 2008 points chase so the standings will experience a shake up after the PASS 300, race number thirteen of the fourteen race schedule.

The PASS 300 was one of four races awarding PASS National Championship points, and Cassius Clark has taken the unofficial lead in those standings with his fifth place finish. John Stancill led Clark by two markers prior to the 300; Stancill ran up front for much of the day but a miscue exiting pit road cost the young North Carolina racer a lap late in the race. That series will come down to the Howler at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on  Saturday October 18th. Expect Clark and Stancill to make the trip to Greenville South Carolina to battle it out for the title. Clark is the defending race winner

The PASS North super late model and Mod series championship contenders will wage an on-track war  for their respective 2008 series championships on Saturday October 4th at Wiscasset (ME) Raceway.

Shaw Shines in PASS 400 Weekend Mod Feature

NAPLES ME  (September 22, 2008) The PASS Mods added extra distance for Sundays’ PASS 400 weekend feature at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, and Andy Shaw returned to victory lane for the first time since the PASS Mod opener at the Scarborough Maine oval. Shaw claimed the lead on lap seventeen and dominated the remaining thirty three laps for the convincing win. Troy Morse raced home second, with PASS Mod newcomer Glen Bradbury third, Rod Henry fourth and Tom Oliver fifth.

Greg Ellis and Scott McDaniel brought the field down to the green, and Ellis grabbed the early lead. McDaniel slid up the speedway and fell back through the field, while Bill Dixon ad Ronald Gooden raced up to second and third. Dixon took the lead away from Ellis one lap later and Troy Morse charged past Gooden on lap three for second.

By lap six Shaw was up to fourth from his ninth place starting position, methodically working his way to the front. Morse took his turn at the point, passing Dixon on lap nine, but Shaw was on a mission. He moved up to challenge Morse on lap twelve, and five laps later he took over the top spot and was never headed.

Shaw dedicated his win to the memory of Alan Tripp, a well known and liked figure in northern New England motorsports who passed away suddenly last week.

Mark Lucas, Tom Oliver and Shaw are locked in a three way battle for the PASS Mod title, and they’ll duke it out for the 2008 PASS Mod Championship at Wiscasset (ME) Raceway on Saturday October 4th for The Fall Brawl.

Morse wins wild PASS Pluffybilt Sportsman 100 at Beech Ridge

Naples ME – (September 22, 2008)  Donnie Morse Jr. looked like he would have a solid top five finish as the laps ran down Sunday in the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Pluffybilt Sportsman 100 . But with four laps to go, Morse found himself scooting under the top four and taking over the lead as a four car melee at the front took out the rest of the front runners. Morse then cruised to victory over Russell Morse and Steve Bennett Sr. to score the win in the season’s biggest race for the PASS Sportsman division.

Until that point it looked like Terry Merrill, and Wayne Helliwell Jr.  were going to duke it out for the win. The pair had swapped the top spot several times, often twice on the same lap as they battled side by side for the point. But Dan McKeage had raced his way up through the field to third as the laps wound down and was looking to challenge the top two McKeage got his chance to make a run on a lap 96 restart, trying to get under Helliwell on the bottom. The move didn’t work, the pair came together and the end result was a new leader as Mckeage, Helliwell, Merrill and Carey Martin all went spinning.

It was a wild finish to a wild race that was slowed thirteen times by caution flags

PASS Pluffybilt Sportsman regular Richie Morse finished fourth with Jeff Irish fifth. Helliwell recoverd for sixth and Reggie Leeman was seventh. Clyde Hennessey, McKeage, and Alan Moeller rounded out the top ten.

Richie Morse now leads Steve Bennett  276-250 in the  Sportsman point standings .The PASS Pluffybilt Racing Tractors Sportsman Championship will be determined when the series heads to Groveton New Hampshire’s Riverside Speedway for their season finale on  Saturday October 11th as a part of Riverside’s  popular Frost Bite 250 event.
