Logano Scores Raybestos Rookie of the Race Honors for the Second Time This Season

Logano scored a 13th-place finish and took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the second time in three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races this season. This is the best finish by a Raybestos Rookie in three races in 2009. Logano leads Scott Speed by one point (32-31) in the overall Raybestos Rookie standings. Logano led the Shelby 427 once for one lap. This is the first time in six career starts that Logano has led a Sprint Cup race and he becomes the first Raybestos Rookie to lead a lap this season.

Here is the post race transcript with Logano from Las Vegas:

DID THE LATE CAUTIONS HELP YOU OR WAS IT A DISADVANTAGE? COULD YOU HAVE MADE IT ON FUEL?

“We could have made it. I think we were eighth-place at the time. I was hoping like heck, like c’mon baby just go all the way and finish this thing. Eighth-place would have been awesome. We probably should have finished 10th, looking at it now, just mistakes on my behalf, just things I should have done different to have kept back up there. My fault, no big deal, we learned from it and it’s part of being a Raybestos Rookie there too.”

HOW CRAZY DO THOSE LAST RESTARTS GET?

“You can watch on TV how crazy it gets. You’re out there trying to get every last inch when it comes down to the end there. That’s the part where it gets hairy and you’re like c’mon baby finish this thing here. We’re running good and that’s just pretty much what happened.”

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE DAY?

“It went pretty good. I think this is exactly what we needed with the Home Depot Toyota. We were able to make a lot of adjustments through the race and finally got it right with a hundred to go or so and I was able to start coming back through the field then. Stayed out of trouble and the whole team did an awesome job today. This is what we needed to do. I look at myself and say hey, I probably could have got a top-10, but that’s part of being a rookie and I learned from it.”

HOW MUCH HAVE YOU LEARNED AS A DRIVER IN THREE RACES THIS SEASON?

“From Daytona, I wasn’t that good at all [smiles] and I feel like I’m getting better and I’m learning every weekend so much and it’s helping me so much. I think it’s kind of what’s kind of going on right now. Hopefully we keep this going. Right now, the last two races, California and here we were good by the end of the race. We’ve got to kind of work on getting good earlier.”

ARE YOU GETTING MORE COMFORTABLE?

“Yeah, definitely getting more comfortable in these cars. It just takes time. It’s part of it. By no means are we there yet but we’re getting closer.”
