Rookie Sensation Brett Moffitt Eyeing Home Track Success

Harrisburg, N.C. (May 12, 2009): Andy Santerre Motorsports’ Brett Moffitt is hoping that a NASC AR statistical phenomenon – that of hometown success - continues this weekend when the Camping World Series East heads to Iowa Speedway for the running of the Long John Silver’s 200 presented by A&W Restaurants. Moffitt, a Grimes, Iowa resident, has already left a solid impression on the series when, in his debut, he beat out Joey Logano as the youngest driver to ever win a Pole Award. He then backed it up with a top-five finish.

Moffitt wants to add a victory to those stats when the series stops in Newton , Iowa – just a short 40 mile drive from his home.

“My goal is to go out there and try to win it,” said Moffitt about this weekend’s race. “Every driver wants to win in front of their hometown crowd. I’ll have a lot of family and friends in the grandstands and it would mean a lot to me to be successful in front of them.”

The 16-year-old driver is just three months younger than Joey Logano had been when he set the record as the youngest Pole Award winner. Logano held the record for two years before Moffitt was able to claim the title – coincidentally at the same track, Greenville Pickens Speedway in South Carolina .

“It was quite an honor to beat Joey’s record,” said Moffitt. “Especially on our first ever qualifying attempt in this series. Hopefully, we’ll have a few more to add to that record before the season is over.”

Moffitt will be relying on Andy Santerre Motorsports to help him achieve that goal. The team posted a top-10 finish last season at the 7/8-mile asphalt paved tri-oval race track.

“Andy (Santerre) is very respected in this series for a reason,” said Moffitt. “His experience and knowledge is unsurpassed. I have every confidence in him and the crew to put me in a position to win this race this weekend.”

Drivers of the NASCAR Camping World Series East and NASCAR Camping World Series West go head to head in their only points-paying combination race of the season this weekend. The Long John Silver’s 200 is also one of the longest distance races of the season at 200 laps. The green flag is set to drop on Sunday, May 17th at 4:15 p.m. central time and will be broadcast on the SPEED Channel on May 28th at 3 p.m. eastern time.
