Hudson,
NH Hudson Speedway closed out a great weekend doubleheader with a special Memorial
Day event on Monday afternoon, with a full field of Outlaw Sportsman making their season
debut. A
couple of entertaining heat races set the field for the feature event, and the folks that
filled the grandstand were treated to a great show when the feature event rolled out onto
the high banks. The
legendary Pete The Travelin Man Fiandaca was among the Outlaw Sportsman
entries and he looked strong in qualifying, but mechanical problems in the feature dropped
him off the pace and ended his day early. They
were racing two and three-wide throughout the pack all race long, and there were several
lead changes in the early laps before Mitch Wendell of Derry finally took command for
good. Wendell
made an impressive charge to the lead, and then he outran a star-studded field to take
home the win. Team Daley drivers Sandy Lee and
Lee Weldy shared the podium with Wendell after scoring second and third place finishes. Second-generation
racer Tim Casey came home with a solid fourth place run, with veteran Bobby Allen right
behind in fifth. Chris Lee scored sixth aboard
the third Team Daley car, with Matt Kawejsza, early leader Ron Lord, Sparky MacIver, and
Shaun Waites next across the stripe. The
Wendells had a great day at Hudson International, as Mitchs son Dean had a
pretty solid race himself, running to a strong second place finish behind winner John
Cianciulli in the Rookie Stock feature event. Scotty
Duval, John Swain, and Mark Nevers rounded out the top five. Louis
Maher found his way back to victory lane in the Roadrunner man, outlasting a strong field
to post the win. Jef James scored the
runner-up finish, with Pat DAlba, Tenacious John Pilvelis, and Bruce
Knowles rounding out the top five. Nick
Gilchrist held off a late race challenge from Dan Fortin to post the win in the Thunder
Light feature, with Fortin settling for second over Tyler Hatch, Shawna Randall, and Gage
Harron. Dave
Helliwell of Pelham topped the one-on-one drags, with Ross Colburn taking the flagpole
race win, and Tim Lord of Tyngsboro picking up the win in the 10-lpa spectators
race. |
