Daniels Makes Debut in East Series at Watkins
Glen
Charlotte, NC: Earnhardt Ganassi Racing support engineer, Tiff Daniels,
traded in her engineering cap for a helmet this past weekend at Watkins
Glen International. Daniels climbed into the #94 Love's Travel Stops and
Country Store/Wide Open Energy Drink Dodge to race in her first NASCAR
Camping World Series East race. She will be driving the remainder of the
season with Hamilton Racing and the Drive for Diversity program in the
East Series.
"I have been given such a great opportunity to race in the Drive for
Diversity program with Hamilton Racing," said Daniels. "I am looking
forward to learning everything I can in the East series and to use it as a
stepping stone to advance my career."
Daniels first race at the Glen was definitely a learning experience being
her first time racing a stock car on a road course and her first time in
an East car. She began to get the hang of the track during the practice
sessions when the right front tire went flat. She kept a hold of the car
and brought it to a stop in the gravel.
There was no damage done and the team was able to get the car ready for
qualifying. Daniels was near the end of the qualifying run when her engine
blew. This forced her to start at the back of the field come race time.
As the race got underway a second engine blew only a few laps into the
race putting Daniels out of the race early on.
"There were a lot of problems with the spec motor at the road course this
weekend," commented Daniels. "Numerous engines blew during the two days we
were at the track. It's unfortunate we lost two and lost the second one so
early in the race. However, the team is working very hard to get another
engine and prepare the car so we will be ready for Loudon in a couple
weeks. I'm looking forward to racing on an oval in this series with the
Hamilton Racing team."
Daniels' next race will be on June 26th at New Hampshire Speedway. It will
be in combination with the Nationwide race on Saturday and Sprint Cup race
on Sunday.
