Turple Wins CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour
Championship at Scotia Speedworld
Shawn Turple of Enfield, NS captured his first CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour
Championship on Saturday afternoon at Scotia Speedworld. Turple had a 19
point lead going into the final event of the 2009 season and finished the
Parts for Trucks 200 in the fifth position to retain his points lead over
Wayne Smith of Timberlea, NS. Smith got caught up in turn two in the early
laps of the race and suffered damage to his front left side of the race car,
only managing to get back on the track after the halfway break.
Shawn Tucker of Fredericton, NB won the Parts for Trucks 200, the 2009
CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour Finale on Saturday afternoon. Tucker took the lead
for the final time with 15 laps remaining in the race to win his fourth race
of the season. Donald Chisholm of Antigonish, NS finished third behind Mike
Stevens of Riverview, NB. John Flemming of Halifax, NS and Shawn Turple of
Enfield, NS rounded out your top five.
Only 9 cautions slowed the event, including a competition break at lap 100.
Donald Chisholm of Antigonish, NS won the Coast Tire Most Laps Led award
after leading 98 laps of the race.
LiteCo heat races were won by Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, NB, Daryl
Mahar of Hubley, NS and Jonathan Hicken of Brudenell, PE. Shawn Tucker won
the Dash for the Pole, featuring the fastest ten competitors from Atlantic
Tiltload Time Trials and started on the pole for the 200 lap Main Feature.
Wayne Smith had the fastest lap on the 3/10 mile D-oval, with a speed of
over 75 miles per hour. Marty Prevost of Enfield, NS won the "B" Feature to
determine the final qualifying positions.
The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour honors its competitors with its Championship
Banquet. The Banquet will be held at the Holiday Inn Harbourview in
Dartmouth, NS on January 23rd, 2010.
