Kobyluck Looks To Defend NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown Triumph


DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 26, 2009) – In 2009, Matt Kobyluck became the
first driver to earn multiple NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown victories.
This coming January, he will look to add to that total.
Kobyluck, a long-time competitor and past champion in the NASCAR Camping
World Series East that hails from Uncasville, Conn., has declared his
intentions to return to Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (Calif.) on Jan. 29-30
with hopes of earning a third NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown trophy.
“We’re going to go out there and try to knock off another one,” Kobyluck
said. “It’s such a great event, and such a great feeling to get a big win
like that. You’re competing against the best talent there is out there.”
The seventh running of the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, which brings
together the top racers from across North America for the ”Daytona 500 of
short-track racing,” will be highlighted by the 225-lap Camping World Series
all-star race. Each race winner during the 2009 Camping World Series season
is eligible for a protected starting spot, as are the 2009 champions from
each of NASCAR’s six regional touring series and the NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series national champion.
Kobyluck has been arguably the best driver in the six-year history of the
event. The 2008 Camping World Series East champion earned his first NASCAR
Toyota All-Star Showdown victory in 2006 after finishing as the event’s
runner-up the two previous seasons. His second triumph – this past January –
came after a last-lap incident between race leaders Joey Logano and Peyton
Sellers that resulted in Kobyluck going to Victory Lane.
 “Toyota, Irwindale and NASCAR all put on a great program to go compete at,
and SPEED does a great job televising it for us,” Kobyluck said. “It’s a
great event to be involved with, and we look forward to going out there
again with Mohegan Sun as our primary sponsor and try to pull off another
win.”
In addition to eligible 2009 race winners and series champions, the starting
lineup will be determined through time trials, limited provisionals for
Camping World Series regulars, and the last-chance "Open" race that provides
drivers one final chance to make the grid.
The 2010 NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown schedule also includes 100-lap
Whelen All-American Series Super Late Model and 75-lap Late Model races.
Both nights of racing will air live on SPEED.
