|
|
The
11th Annual Busch Sport Scene Charity Event in Rangeley,
Maine was another huge success as the event raised $7000
for our great charities. The total money raised put the
annual event over the $100,000 mark for total money
raised in the events eleven year history.
Katie Hagar on the Arctic Cat supplied by PJ's The day started off with a snowmobile ride poker run, for those so inclined. The riding was very good, and the weather was outstanding. Among the riders this year were NASCAR Drive for Diversity racer Katie Hagar and 6-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar.
George & Don raffling items The evening festivities began with the traditional raffle hour, where over 100 items were raffled off to the many guests in attendance at the home of the event, the Club House Restaurant. Among the many raffle items won were signed memorabilia, shirts & hats, gift certificates to area business and much more. PASS racer Adam Bates was on hand to donate some items from his race team.
Greg Fish Dealing While the raffles were taking place, Busch Sport Scene's Greg Fish and Maine Special Olympics volunteer Don Daigle dealt the poker hands for those that hit the trails during the day. The winner had a full house with ten's over three's. Prizes went to the top three hands, with the winner receiving a package valued at over $500 that included a new snowmobile helmet, jacket and gift certificate from PJ's Powersports.
Brian Hoar with his Moose Antler Next up on the evening were the annual Busch Sport Scene driver awards. Runner up was announced first, as Brian Hoar came to the stage to receive his runner-up honors. Brian was given a moose antler for his award - to match the one he bought in the 2005 auction!
Eddie Mac getting his award Then Eddie MacDonald was called up and named the 2009 Busch Sport Scene Driver of the Year as well as the Fans Favorite Driver. Among the gifts Macdonald received for his honors was a $1000 gift certificate from Bo Built Race Cars and a beautiful Get Etched granite plaque commemorating his honor.
Soup holding the Celtics ball Then came the big charity
auction that has become the biggest draw of the evening.
The highlight of this year's auction was a basketball
that had been donated by the Boston Celtics and signed by
the entire team. The ball quickly soared over $500 until
just three people were left as the ball went north of
$800. Jim Place, Rollie LaChance and Matt Kobyluck were
left to battle it out, with Kobyluck earning the ball
with his final $900 bid.
Comedien Freddie Stone 'passing out gummy worms' The evening was capped off with a comedy show that featured the hilarious Freddie Stone. Over all the night was a huge success, with plenty of people attending and being very generous with their donations and bidding. The folks at Mainely Motorsports were on hand taping the event for broadcast on their weekly TV show.

A donation was also made to the Rangeley Snowmobile Club to support the great work they do keeping the trails in such nice condition each year.
Dylan Lajoie receiving his scholarship This years scholarship winner, Dylan Lajoie, is studying journalism at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, Maine. Last years scholarship winner, Jordan Place, is studying sports marketing at the University of New England and recently began an internship with the Maine Red Claws basketball team.
Darlene & Carolee "There are so many people and businesses that make this event possible," Event Organizer George Campbell said, "it amazes me each year the support we continue to receive. From Darlene and Carolee who are the first to arrive at the Club House in the morning to everyone that attends and supports the event and the many businesses that donate items to make the event possible. Topping the $100,000 mark is a goal I have wanted to reach for a while, and I cannot be any prouder of achieving it. I am very grateful for all the support I have received from everyone involved to accomplish this."
