Ricky’s Race for Kids Shifts to Canaan in 2010

 

 

Canaan, NH. – (12/20/09) – When the 2010 edition of the Modified Racing Series returns

to Canaan, NH., Speedway, July 24, the 3^rd annual Ricky’s Race for Kids will highlight the event that annually benefits David’s House, in Lebanon, NH.  Last October, a total of $10,012, was presented to David’s House.

 

David's House provides a home-away-from-home and support for families with children receiving treatment through Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

 

“A situation arose that gave us the opportunity to move the race closer to David’s House and the Lebanon area,” said retired New England modified great Donnie Miller. “I am grateful to Dennis Fleury and the folks at Claremont for their support the last two years.”

 

The 112 lap modified race is run in memory of Miller’s son, Ricky, who died at the age of 34. Like his father, Ricky, was a popular and successful modified racer in the Northeast. The last race car he drove carried the number 12.

 

Miller furthered,” We are going to do some different things. Our family is working closely with new track manager Dick Therrien who has some great ideas. The plan is to get the whole community involved. Canaan is perfect for what we are trying to do for David’s House.” Miller concluded.

 

Friday, July 23, will feature a live radio broadcast (KIXX 100.5) from Gateway Motors, White River Junction, VT., race cars and antique cars on display, race ticket giveaways, followed by a Saturday pit party at the speedway on race day. A $1,000 cash door prize will be given away. 

 

Therrien, the newly-named general manager for the Canaan asphalt race track is eagerly looking forward to the new campaign. “We’re excited the modifieds are coming back to Canaan. They put on a great show there. We are pleased and honored to be a part of Ricky’s Race for Kid’s. I have met with the Miller family and we have some marketing ideas that will enhance the event. We are very glad to be a part of it.”

 

Therrien added, “The Henry’s, (owners Chick & Sandy) have worked hard on upgrades and race fans will be pleasantly surprised to see what has taken place at Canaan since the last time the Modified Racing Series was there.” 

 

In 2007, Les Hinckley and Jon McKennedy shared victory lane.
