Tim
Andrews Solid At Pocono In Inaugural Pocono Mountains 125
MURFREESBORO, Tennessee (August 2, 2010) - - Tim Andrews and Team Gill
Racing (TGR) arrived at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway with one goal in mind; bring
home a solid finish to maintain the teams position in the NASCAR Camping
World Truck Series (NCWTS) car owners point standings. With Andrews
eighteenth place finish in this past Saturdays inaugural Pocono Mountains
125, they surpassed their goal. The No. 46 TGR Dodge Ram recorded its best
finish since Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and moved up one position
in the truck owner point standings to 21st, trailing 20th by just one point.
A satisfied Andrews, the son of long-time NASCAR crew chief Paul Andrews,
stated, Even though we were down on horsepower, the truck felt comfortable
all weekend. For us to run with the big-budget trucks we were racing is a
great accomplishment for this small team. It really shows what a hungry
driver and team can do.
With only fifteen laps of practice on Friday, Andrews qualified the No. 46
TGR Dodge a disappointing 26th. At the drop of the green flag, Andrews
began picking off trucks one-by-one racing solidly in the top-20 all day.
On lap 47 of the 50 lap contest, Andrews was running in the top-15 as the
yellow flag flew.
On the first-green-white-checkered attempt, the No. 81 of David Starr made
contact with the left-rear of Andrews truck. Despite making an impressive
save, Andrews lost three positions due to the contact. With track position a
crucial element, Andrews was unable to fight back into the top-15 but did
hold off the No. 4 of Ricky Carmichael as Andrews roared crossed the
start-finish line 18th.
I cant thank Danny (Gill) and the team enough for this opportunity,
sounded Andrews. They work so hard for this and accomplish a lot on a small
budget. I really hope we can put something together to do this again and be
able to showcase our talents with an even better finish.
TGR owner Danny Gill was equally enthused with Andrews effort. We are so
pleased with Tims performance. He did an outstanding job at keeping his
nose clean yet racing aggressively. We havent been able to run with those
trucks all season and it feels great to be up in the mix. I really hope we
can put something together for Tim because he proved today hes a
wheel-man.
