Busch North Scene – The Busch Years to be Released with Book Launch on December 17

George Campbell’s latest book on the NASCAR Busch North Series will be officially released on December 17th. The book is titled Busch North Scene – The Busch Years and is a follow up to the Busch North Scene book released last year, the Ten Year Retrospective.

The new book will focus on the NASCAR Busch North Series. The book follows the New England based autoracing series from its inaugural season in 1987 through the final year that Busch Beer was the title sponsor, 2007. Since the first book took a closer look at the 2000-decade, this book looks deeper into the series history.

Many of the series original stars are covered in the new book, from the series first two champions Joey Kourafas and Jamie Aube through each of the champions of the 1990-decade.

Two-time NASCAR Busch North Series Champion Brad Leighton wrote the foreword for the book. He also added quotes, stories and comments through out the book on his experiences and fellow racers.

The book is broken into three sections the same way the first book was. The first section is a collection of four chapters from former Busch North Scene columnists as they reflect on their years covering the series. Phil Whipple looks at his many years working in the series, and takes a close look at the time he spent in Vermont covering racers like Bobby Dragon, Robbie Crouch, Dave Dion as well as his favorite track, Thunder Road. Mike Twist reviews his years working on the tour, as well as the time he spent working for Joe Bessey down south. Penny Aicardi, who has written more on the series than anyone, contributes a great chapter on her adventures with many of the top drivers and teams on the tour, as well as many of the lesser known people and the behind the scenes people that kept the series thriving.

The middle section of the book is a variety of chapters that cover many topics from a review of the series first eight champions and the path they took to their success. Another chapter takes a look at the many people that started their NASCAR careers in the Busch North Series, going on to become BNS Alumni. Not only have many racers passed through the BNS, like Ricky Craven, Joe Bessey, Mike McLaughlin, Andy Santerre and more, but some of the many crewmembers that advanced are profiled too. There is also a chapter titled ‘Maine’. This chapter takes a closer look at the many successful drivers that came from the state of Maine like Mike Rowe, Dick McCabe, Tracy Gordon, Kelly Moore, Santerre, Bessey, Craven and many others. There is also a chapter that looks back at a few of the drivers that won just a single race on the tour, racers like Bruce Haley, Kip Stockwell, Glen Sullivan, Denny Doyle, Bryon Chew, Kim Baker and more.

The last section of the book wraps up like the first book, with a series of articles that first appeared among the pages of the Busch North Scene newspaper between 1999 and 2009. It will provide the readers with a look back at many of the top stories and personalities that made the series so special during those years.

The book has 400 pages and contains approximately 150 photos.

The books release will be celebrated with a book launch at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn, Maine on December 17th. The next day George will be doing a book signing at Books N Things on Main Street in Norway, Maine. They will start carrying the book in the store as of December 18.

George will also be signing copies of the book at the Northeast Motorsports Expo in Augusta, Maine on the weekend of January 6,7 & 8. Several of the drivers that appear in the book and on the cover will be making appearances at the show to sign copies as well.

The books can also be purchased online at www.neracing.com and there is ordering info on the Busch North Scene facebook page too. To order by mail, send a check or money order for either $20 for a soft cover version or $30 for a hardcover copy along with $5 for shipping & handling to:
