4- Time NASCAR Champion Andy Santerre to Sign New BNS Book This Weekend

Andy Santerre will join George Campbell this weekend at the Northeast Motor Sports Expo in Augusta, Maine to sign copies of Campbell’s new book on stockcar racing in the northeast. The book is titled Busch North Scene: The Busch Years and is a follow up to Busch North Scene: A Ten Year Retrospective. Both books will be available at the show.

Santerre, a native of Cherryfield, Maine, will be traveling north from his North Carolina home for the show. He will be joining George from 6-7PM on Friday night then again at approximately 2 PM on Saturday.

Andy is the only 4-time champion in series history. He is one of the most known and popular racers from the Pine Tree State. He was one of the most featured drivers in the first Busch North Scene book and is again heavily featured in the new book. There are many photos and quotes from Andy from ‘the Busch Years’.

1995 NASCAR Champion Kelly Moore will join Santerre and Campbell to sign the new book at the show on Friday night as well.

Campbell’s new book was just released the week before Christmas with a book launch at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn, Maine. The book follows the New England based NASCAR Busch North Series from its inaugural season in 1987 through the final year that Busch Beer was the title sponsor, 2007. Since the first book took a closer look at the 2000-decade, this book looks deeper into the series history. Many of the series original stars are covered in the new book, from the series first two champions Joey Kourafas and Jamie Aube through each of the champions of the 1990-decade.

Two-time NASCAR Busch North Series Champion Brad Leighton wrote the foreword for the book. He also added quotes, stories and comments through out the book on his experiences and fellow racers. Santerre and Moore are among the many series veterans that add insight throughout the book as well.

The book is broken into three sections the same way the first book was. The first section is a collection of four chapters from former Busch North Scene columnists as they reflect on their years covering the series. Phil Whipple looks at his many years working in the series, and takes a close look at the time he spent in Vermont covering racers like Bobby Dragon, Robbie Crouch, Dave Dion as well as his favorite track, Thunder Road. Mike Twist reviews his years working on the tour, as well as the time he spent working for Joe Bessey down south. Penny Aicardi, who has written more on the series than anyone, contributes a great chapter on her adventures with many of the top drivers and teams on the tour, as well as many of the lesser known people and the behind the scenes people that kept the series thriving.

The middle section of the book is a variety of chapters that cover many topics from a review of the series first eight champions and the path they took to their success. Another chapter takes a look at the many people that started their NASCAR careers in the Busch North Series, going on to become BNS Alumni. Not only have many racers passed through the BNS, like Ricky Craven, Joe Bessey, Mike McLaughlin, Andy Santerre and more, but some of the many crewmembers that advanced are profiled too. There is also a chapter titled ‘Maine’. This chapter takes a closer look at the many successful drivers that came from the state of Maine like Mike Rowe, Dick McCabe, Tracy Gordon, Kelly Moore, Santerre, Bessey, Craven and many others. There is also a chapter that looks back at a few of the drivers that won just a single race on the tour, racers like Bruce Haley, Kip Stockwell, Glen Sullivan, Denny Doyle, Bryon Chew, Kim Baker and more.

Santerre will be available to sign the book from 6PM through 7PM Friday night; Campbell will be there from 5-9.
